Armenia’s former tax chief to remain in custody

Former Chairman of Armenia’s State Revenue Committee Gagik Khachatryan will remain in custody, his lawyer Yerem Sargsyan told reporters on Monday.

The Yerevan Court of Appeals, presided over by judge Rubik Mkhitaryan, turned down the motion filed by Khachatryan’s lawyers to release their client, he said.

Gagik Khachatryan is charged with abusing his powers and wasting large amounts of public funds while in office. He was arrested in August 2019.
