Armenian FM: Justice and truth consolidated with historic Armenian Genocide resolution

Justice and truth consolidated with the historic Armenian Genocide resolution overwhelmingly passed by the US House on Tuesday, Armenian Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan said on Twitter.

The minister hailed the historic vote as a “massive message against denialism.”

“Thank you US, US Congress. Justice & truth consolidated w/ historic HR Res 296. Tribute to memory of victims of Armenian Genocide. Massive message against denialism. Deep gratitude to each of 405 votes. Empowered to work anew for prevention of mass atrocities anywhere in the world,” he tweeted.

The House voted 405 to 11 in favor of the resolution, which calls on the US government to “commemorate the Armenian Genocide through official recognition and remembrance" and to "reject efforts to enlist, engage, or otherwise associate the United States government with denial of the Armenian Genocide or any other genocide."

It says the government should also “encourage education and public understanding of the facts of the Armenian Genocide, including the United States role in the humanitarian relief effort, and the relevance of the Armenian Genocide to modern-day crimes against humanity."
