Expert: Senator Graham blocks Armenian Genocide resolution

U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham blocked on Wednesday a resolution recognizing the Armenian Genocide in the Ottoman Empire, Armenian political scientist Suren Sargsyan said in a Facebook post.

The senator objected to passing the resolution hours after he took part in a meeting between Trump and Erdogan in the White House, he added.

A total of 24 senators had backed the Armenian Genocide resolution (S.Res.150).

Earlier in October, the expert predicted that the passage of the genocide bill in the Senate would be far more difficult.

“The problem is that there is so-called "veto" power (Senate Hold) in the Senate practice. This means that any of the 100 senators can exercise it and “block” any legal act or resolution to prevent it from entering the full agenda and being put to a vote,” he explained.
