Judgements in Armenia now made 'by order of one person’, says Fifth Channel executive director

Executive Director of the Fifth Channel Harutyun Harutyunyan is convinced that the Yerevan court will not release the owner of the Armenian TV station, Armen Tavadyan.

Harutyunyan joined a group of people in signing a petition which calls for Tavadyan’s release upon guarantees offered by them.

“Yes, we have collected signatures to change the measure of restraint imposed on owner of our TV channel Armen Tavadyan.

“Obviously, the "court" will turn it down and will extend Armen Tavadyan’s arrest, since the list of the people offering personal guarantees does not include neither the prime minister nor the incumbent deputy parliament speaker, who once had close ties to him,” he said in a post on Facebook.

“As I have repeatedly stated, court rulings in Armenia are now made by the order of one person and upon his decision. There is no other way, but it does not mean that we should not fight illegalities.

“Struggle gives birth to the right. There is no rule of law without struggle. This too shall pass,” the post read.
