Robert Kocharyan taken back to prison from Yerevan hospital

After receiving inpatient care at Erebouni Medical Center in Yerevan, Armenia’s second President Robert Kocharyan was transferred back to Yerevan-Kentron Penitentiary on Friday morning, his lawyers said in a statement.

Doctors have observed positive dynamics in his health conditions, meanwhile stating that Kocharyan needs constant medical supervision and further treatment at the moment, the lawyers said.

His defense team is currently discussing the expediency of taking the ex-president back to prison given the fact that several cases of coronavirus have already been confirmed in the penitentiary system.

“Under such circumstances, the defense lawyers find that Robert Kocharyan's health condition does not allow him to be kept in the penitentiary, the staff of which has not yet been tested for coronavirus,” the statement read.

The lawyers also stressed they are not going to publish detailed information on Kocharyan's health condition and the treatment he has received, arguing it is strictly personal information and medical secret.
