WHO: 70% of global population must be vaccinated to develop immunity

Worldwide vaccination coverage should be 65-70 percent to establish immunity to coronavirus, Soumya Swaminathan, Chief Scientist at the World Health Organization (WHO), said during a briefing, TASS reports.

The best way to achieve immunity is through vaccination, and its coverage should be at least 65-70 percent, said Swaminathan.

In turn, WHO expert Maria van Kerkhove expressed the opinion that attempts to develop herd immunity would naturally be dangerous and lead to a large number of victims.

Vaccination is the most effective way to protect the population, she said.
