Constitutional Court refuses consideration of the case stripping Gagik Tsarukyan of his parliamentary immunity

The Constitutional Court of Armenia has refused to accept for consideration the motion to strip the leader of opposition Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP) Gagik Tsarukyan of his parliamentary immunity.

As 168.am news website reports, the decision to refuse the consideration of the case was initiated by CC member Arevik Petrosyan supported by Judges Artur Vagharshyan, Edgar Shatiryan and Ashot Kkhachatryan and was eventually adopted after a tense debate.

The motion was earlier approved by by the National Assembly Council and submitted to the Court for judicial review

To note, the motion under consideration was based on a constitutional provision that a NA deputy may not engage in any other paid occupation except scientific and educational activity and may not engage in entrepreneurial activity.

The members of PAP fraction considered the decision as political persecution against their leader Gagik Tsarukyan.
