Arrest of Goris deputy mayor illegal, court rules

The Yerevan Court of First Instance, presided over by Judge David Balayan, on Friday ruled that the arrest of Deputy Mayor of Goris Menua Hovsepyan was illegal.

The deputy mayor was arrested on Thursday in the wake of angry protests Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan faced during his visit to Syunik Province on Wednesday.

Mayor of Meghri Mkhitar Zakaryan and Deputy Meghri Mayor Armen Samvelyan were also among the 16 Syunik residents detained by the law enforcement officers.
