Sergei Parajanov’s son dies at 63

Prominent filmmaker Sergei Parajanov’s son, Suren Parajanov, has passed away in Kyiv at the age of 63, the Sergei Parajanov Museum said in a statement on Tuesday.

The museum also shared one of the letters Parajanov wrote to his son from prison.

In November 1955, Sergey Parajanov married the seventeen-year-old daughter of a Soviet diplomat, Svetlana Shcherbatyuk. On November 10, 1958 their son, Suren, was born. The couple divorced in 1961, but they always maintained a good relationship.

Parajanov’s friend, Georgian photographer Yuri Mechitov, shared on Facebook some archive photos of the father and son.
