Opposition protests continue in Yerevan

Opposition protesters started a march from Yerevan’s central France Square on Tuesday morning as part of the ongoing civil disobedience campaign to force Nikol Pashinyan from office.

Addressing a rally on Saturday, opposition leader and deputy parliament speaker Ishkhan Saghatelyan announced plans to hold marches to government buildings and educational institutions in Yerevan during daily protests this week.

They want government members to speak up on the issues raised by the opposition, including Artsakh’s status and Armenian-Turkish relations.

Earlier last week, the two opposition alliances represented in the parliament, Hayastan and With Honor (Pativ Unem), drafted a resolution that says Artsakh can never be a part of Azerbaijan, delimitation and demarcation of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border cannot start as long as the Azerbaijani troops remain on Armenian territory and the Armenian-Turkish normalization cannot take place “at the expense of abandoning the Genocide claims.”

Opposition MPs called an emergency session on June 3 to discuss the document.
