MP blames Pashinyan's government for violation of parliament statute

Independent lawmaker Taguhi Tovmasyan, chair of the Armenian National Assembly Standing Committee on Protection of Human Rights and Public Affairs, has blamed Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's administration for a violation of the parliament statute.

“Due to the policies pursued by Pashinyan's government, we have not only failed to install a new ombudsperson for the third month now, but also the Constitutional Law on Rules of Procedure of the National Assembly has been violated,” she wrote on Facebook on Tuesday.

The MP cited Article 129 of the law which requires the human rights defender to submit a report on his/her activities and the human rights situation in the country to the parliament by April 1 annually.

“The report has not been presented to date,” Tovmasyan said, calling it a “slap in the face to the legislative body.”
