Armenian parliament majority elects two new judges of Cassation Court

The pro-government majority in the Armenian parliament on Wednesday voted to elect two new justices of the Court of Cassation.

67 MPs, all from the ruling Civil Contract party, voted unanimously to elect Naira Hovsepyan a judge of the court’s Civil Chamber in a secret ballot.

Separately, David Khachaturyan was unanimously elected a judge of the Criminal Chamber at the Cassation Court.

They had been nominated for the vacant posts by the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC), a state body overseeing Armenian courts.

The voting results were announced by Counting Commission Chairman Narek Babayan.
