Armenian authorities probing soldier's killing by Azerbaijan

The Armenian Investigative Committee is probing the death of soldier Gerasim Arakelyan who was killed by Azerbaijani sniper fire on Monday.

The serviceman sustained a gunshot injury while carrying out engineering work at the Armenian combat outpost near the village of Bardzruni at 2:35 p.m. and died on his way to hospital, the law-enforcement agency said in a statement on Tuesday.

A criminal case has been launched into the soldier’s murder “on the grounds of ethnic hatred”.

The preliminary investigation is underway.
