Armenian village mayor reveals details about killed army officer

Contract serviceman Karen Karapetyan, who was killed at a combat outpost early on Tuesday morning, was from the village of Voskevaz in Armenia’s Aragatsotn Province. He was 24 years old.

"Karen was the eldest son in the family. He was a very good young man. He was a lieutenant by rank, a military university graduate," Yervand Hambardzumyan, head of the Voskevaz community, told 24News.

Earlier on Tuesday, the Armenian Defense Ministry said Karapetyan was found dead with a gunshot wound at around 6:20am.

An investigation into his death is underway.
