Paris poses as peacemaker in Transcaucasia after failure in Africa, Moscow says

After the failure of its African policy, France is trying to create an image of a peacemaker in Transcaucasia, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said.

Meanwhile, she noted that it's in fact Russia that has been playing a peacekeeping role in the region.

"We do realize that it has nothing to do with peacekeeping. It was our country that assumed and fulfilled the entire peacekeeping role, even as a mediator in the Nagorno-Karabakh settlement. Now, when the most difficult phase is hopefully over, France, as a NATO member, can show off there," Zakharova told a TV program on Sunday.

In late February, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan paid an official visit to France. At a joint briefing with him, French President Emmanuel Macron said that Paris supports efforts to establish a just and lasting peace in the South Caucasus.
