Acts of civil disobedience continue in Yerevan

Acts of civil disobedience continue in Yerevan to push for Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s resignation.

Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan of the Tavush Diocese, who is leading a protest movement against the Armenian government’s unilateral land handover to Azerbaijan, called for continued acts of civil disobedience in and outside Yerevan on the second day of demonstrations on Friday.

Protests began in Yerevan on 9 May after members and supporters of the Tavush for the Homeland movement marched to the Armenian capital from Tavush Province in a bid to compel the Armenian government to halt the handover of border villages to Azerbaijan.

Groups of protesters have blocked streets in the Armenian capital since Saturday morning, including the Tigran Mets Avenue, Khorenatsi Street, Tbilisi Highway and Liberty Avenue, with drivers honing their horns to express support for the protest.

Police urge protesters to unblock the roads and not to restrict the free movement of other people.
