Yerevan court upholds order to release popular singer's son

The Armenian Court of Appeals on Tuesday upheld a lower court order to release Hrachya Ghevondyan, the son of popular Armenian singer Hayk Ghevondyan (better known as Spitaktsi Hayko).

Judge Marine Melkonyan rejected the prosecutor’s request to remand him in pre-trial custody, defense lawyer Erik Aleksanyan reported.

Ghevondyan was released from custody on May 23, one day after being arrested on charges of plotting a “seizure of power” in Armenia.
