Archbishop Nourhan Manougian, Armenian Patriarch of Jerusalem, has sent a letter to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu regarding the Arnona (Municipality Tax) issue, Chancellor Fr. Aghan Gogchyan reported on Thursday.
"In his letter, His Beatitude exhorted His Excellency to interfere and cease the actions taken by the Municipality against the Patriarchate and restart the meetings within the governmental committee founded by the Prime Minister himself in an effort to find a solution for this issue," he said in a statement.
The Armenian Patriarchate of Jerusalem has filed an administrative petition to stop the foreclosure process against real estate properties that the Patriarchate has owned for centuries, so as to collect Arnona debts that have allegedly accrued since 1994.
