Organized criminal groups involved in most home burglaries in Yerevan – Interior Ministry

From January 1 to February 26 of this year, 48 cases of residential burglary were recorded in Yerevan, but only 21 of them have been solved.

In response to an inquiry from Panorama.am, the General Department of Criminal Police of the Armenian Interior Ministry reported that the highest number of home burglaries over the past two months occurred in the Shengavit and Kentron districts.

"Police observations and investigations indicate that organized criminal groups are involved in most home burglaries. Residential burglaries pose a serious public safety risk, prompting criminals to act with greater caution. Perpetrators typically rely on accomplices to help identify targets, carry out break-ins, plan escape routes and sell stolen goods," the ministry stated.

Over the past two years, the total number of residential burglaries remained relatively stable. In 2023, 367 cases were recorded in Yerevan, rising slightly to 368 in 2024. However, the clearance rate has steadily declined. In 2022, 11.8% of burglaries were solved, dropping to 10.7% in 2023 and further decreasing to approximately 6% in 2024.
