Opposition MP: Ruing party turned Gyumri elections into 'life-and-death struggle'

The upcoming municipal elections in Gyumri have been turned into a “life-and-death struggle” by Armenia’s ruling Civil Contract party, opposition MP Tigran Abrahamyan claims.

In a social media post on Friday, Abrahamyan accused party members and supporters of "orchestrating a smear campaign to obscure the true nature of their mayoral candidate – someone with a history of party switching, who lacks a genuine identity and whose only qualification is his willingness to serve Nikol Pashinyan."

“The label ‘Nikol’s candidate’ speaks volumes about the principles and promises of the ruling party’s nominee. Anyone running under Pashinyan’s or the Civil Contract Party’s banner inevitably aligns with the current leadership’s policy of denial, capitulation and betrayal,” Abrahamyan wrote.
