Pashinyan: Constitutional referendum in Armenia planned for 2027

A referendum on Armenia’s new constitution is expected to take place in 2027, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced on Friday.

“The constitutional referendum is planned for 2027,” he stated in an interview with the Public TV Company.

Pashinyan emphasized that the issue of a new constitution has been on Armenia’s domestic political agenda for years, first emerging in 2018 and gaining greater prominence after 2020.

Regarding the OSCE Minsk Group, Pashinyan stated that its dissolution remains a topic of discussion as Armenia pursues a peace agenda. However, he rejected any negotiations regarding the false "Western Azerbaijan” narrative.

Pashinyan dismissed criticim of his government regarding concessions to Azerbaijan, reiterating that Nagorno-Karabakh had long been internationally recognized as part of Azerbaijan. He argued that under his leadership, Armenia has become “more independent and sovereign".

Commenting on border escalations, he asserted that Azerbaijan’s false accusations of ceasefire violations by Armenian forces are an attempt to divert attention from the core issue – the fact that a peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan has been agreed upon and is awaiting signing. "I am ready to sign it," he reaffirmed.
