Armenian defense minister says border situation remained relatively stable in 2024
Despite occasional reports from Azerbaijan of ceasefire violations, the situation along the Armenian-Azerbaijani border remained relatively stable in 2024, Defense Minister Suren Papikyan stated on Friday.
Speaking at a meeting of the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Defense and Security, Papikyan highlighted that engineering and fortification efforts continued throughout the year, alongside the construction and renovation of permanent deployment sites.
The minister reported that in 2024, 13,500 servicemen underwent certification, with 57% successfully passing the tests. As a result, financial compensation for military personnel increased from 205,000 to 470,000 drams.
Papikyan also highlighted the diversification of military-technical cooperation, which facilitated the acquisition of new weaponry and military equipment. He said that Armenia signed supply contracts with both domestic and international companies for armaments and military hardware.
