Ex-Artsakh minister: Real peace requires different conditions

Hayk Khanumyan, former Artsakh Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure, doubts that a peace agreement will be signed between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

“Azerbaijan continues to escalate tensions and make new demands,” he told Panorama.am on Friday.

Khanumyan criticized Armenia’s possible withdrawal of lawsuits against Azerbaijan from international courts.

“Countries that abandon their legal claims aren’t taken seriously by the international community. Even the suggestion that Armenia could withdraw its international lawsuits undermines trust in Armenia as a state. It weakens the position of Armenia's potential allies and supporters, effectively disarming them,” the former Artsakh minister said.

“Real peace requires different conditions and a different environment. Peace can only be achieved when all issues are addressed. Otherwise, the so-called 'peace deal' would be nothing more than a landmine planted in the region,” he stressed.
