Armenian, Iranian FMs discuss bridge construction over Araks River

Iran welcomes the agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan on a peace treaty and encourage both countries to sign it as soon as possible, Iranian Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi said at a joint press conference with his Armenian counterpart Ararat Mirzoyan in Yerevan on Tuesday.

Before the press conference, Mirzoyan and Araghchi held an extended meeting at the Armenian Foreign Ministry. The Iranian diplomat reaffirmed Iran's commitment to recognizing territorial integrity and opposing any changes to internationally recognized borders.

"Iran's position remains unchanged. All regional issues should be resolved through dialogue without the use of force," Araghchi emphasized.

Referring to bilateral relations, he highlighted the dynamic growth in economic and trade ties, particularly in tourism. "We have agreed to maximize the potential in our relations. Iran and Armenia are committed to facilitating transit routes, ensuring Armenian and Iranian cargo access to the Persian Gulf and the Black Sea. We also discussed the construction of a bridge over the Araks River to further enhance transportation," Araghchi stated.

The Iranian foreign minister is on an official visit to Armenia from March 24-25, during which he will also present his book "The Power of Negotiation".
