Opposition MP: Armenia's ruling party seeks Gyumri election victory at any cost

Tigran Abrahamyan, a lawmaker from the opposition Pativ Unem faction, claims that Armenia’s ruling Civil Contract party is trying to secure victory in Sunday’s snap municipal elections in Gyumri "at all costs".

In a Saturday social media post, he pointed to the ruling party's abuse of administrative resources during its campaign rallies and the crackdown on opposition activists in Gyumri.

According to Abrahamyan, the authorities are not concerned with protecting citizens' rights or ensuring fair and competitive elections.

"Instead, they are only focused on winning the elections at any cost. They couldn’t care less about what happens next, how the people of Gyumri will feel or what they will gain. The authorities are not interested in effective governance, urban development or addressing the city’s urgent problems. Their only goal is to install their own mayor and take control of local resources,” he wrote.
