Mother Armenia bloc ready to support opposition group with most votes in Gyumri
The Mother Armenia bloc has announced its readiness to transfer its votes to the Armenian Communist Party, the opposition group that garnered the most votes in Sunday’s snap municipal elections in Gyumri, without any coalition negotiations.
In a press conference on Monday, the bloc also urged other opposition groups to set aside personal ambitions and engage in dialogue to prevent the ruling Civil Contract party from installing a mayor.
Preliminary unofficial results indicate the following distribution of seats in the Gyumri City Council:
-
Civil Contract party (Sarik Minasyan) – 14 seats
-
Armenian Communist Party (Vardan Ghukasyan) – 8 seats
-
Our City bloc (Martun Grigoryan) – 6 seats
-
My Strong Community party (Ruben Mkhitaryan) – 3 seats
-
Mother Armenia bloc (Karen Simonyan) – 2 seats
