Gyumri elections: Opposition leader Martun Grigoryan gives up City Council seat
MP Martun Grigoryan, who topped the opposition Our City bloc’s list in the March 30 Gyumri elections, has given up his seat in the local municipal council, the Central Electoral Commission (CEC) reports.
CEC spokesperson Seda Ghukasyan told Panorama.am on Monday that Hovhannes Gevorgyan, who came third on the Our City bloc list, has also declined his council seat.
The distribution of seats in the newly elected Gyumri City Council is as follows:
- Civil Contract party (Sarik Minasyan) – 14 seats
- Communist Party of Armenia (Vardan Ghukasyan) – 8 seats
- Our City bloc (Martun Grigoryan) – 6 seats
- My Strong Community party (Ruben Mkhitaryan) – 3 seats
- Mother Armenia bloc (Karen Simonyan) – 2 seats
The upcoming meeting of the Gyumri municipal council is scheduled for April 16. The council is composed of 33 members. The mayor is elected by a simple majority, requiring at least 17 votes.
