Customs officers seize 85kg of hashish at Armenia-Iran border checkpoint

Authorities at the Agarak customs checkpoint on the Armenia-Iran border recently intercepted over 85 kilograms of hashish hidden in a truck arriving from Iran. Using X-ray equipment, customs officers detected suspicious substances in the trailer of the vehicle operated by Iranian citizen V.H.

Further inspection, conducted jointly with anti-smuggling units and sniffer dogs, uncovered a concealed compartment in the trailer floor containing 112 packages of hashish wrapped in polyethylene and foil, the State Revenue Committee reported on Tuesday.

The Iranian national was arrested on suspicion of drug smuggling and handed over to Armenia’s Investigative Committee. A criminal case has been launched and the investigation has been forwarded to the division handling economic crimes and smuggling.

Joint efforts by the Investigative Committee, National Security Service and State Revenue Committee are underway to identify those intended to receive and distribute the drugs within Armenia.
