Yerevan district head charged after assault on activist

Tigran Ter-Margaryan, the head of Yerevan’s Nor Nork administrative district and a member of the pro-Western Hanrapetutyun Party (Republic Party), has been formally charged following an assault on civic activist Artur Chakhoyan along with several other men.

The incident occurred at the district administration building on Wednesday.

According to Investigative Committee spokesperson Kima Avdalyan, four people, including Ter-Margaryan and three employees of the district administration, are facing prosecution under Article 195.2 of Armenia’s Criminal Code, which deals with group assault or other acts of physical coercion.

If convicted, they face penalties ranging from fines to community service, restricted freedom or up to two months in jail.

Separately, Chakhoyan has been charged with hooliganism while receiving hospital treatment after the attack.
