No grounds for Pashinyan’s impeachment now, opposition leader says

There are currently no grounds to initiate impeachment proceedings against Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, opposition leader Seyran Ohanyan stated on Monday. Ohanyan, who heads the Hayastan faction in the parliament, said such a move would be premature and likely to fail without broad public support.

“36 signatures are required to initiate impeachment. The Hayastan faction holds 28 seats. If support from eight more MPs are secured, we will move forward with the process,” he remarked.

Ohanyan stessed the need for widespread public backing for an impeachment attempt to succeed. He noted that while both legal and political grounds exist for Pashinyan’s removal, the initiative must be carefully planned and supported by a unified political front.

He emphasized that the proposal to impeach Pashinyan originated with the Hayastan alliance and remains one of its top priorities. However, he criticized those pushing for impeachment without party affiliation or accountability, warning that targeting the Hayastan faction alone is unacceptable.
