No reason to keep draft constitution secret, says Armenian justice minister

The draft of Armenia's new constitution is currently in development and will soon be reviewed with council members, Minister of Justice Srbuhi Galyan has announced.

Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, she reaffirmed that the text would be ready within 10 months and would undergo public discussions once finalized.

When asked about Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s earlier remarks suggesting the removal of the Declaration of Independence from the constitution, Galyan said that various options are being considered but stressed that the text is still in the drafting stage.

No date has been set for a referendum on the new constitution yet.

“There is neither a reason nor an opportunity to keep the draft constitution secret. The public will be fully informed as it is ultimately for the people to decide whether to adopt it or not," Galyan said.
