12 of 40 murder cases in Armenian military dismissed, official says

A total of 34 fatal incidents involving 40 individuals were recorded in the Armenian armed forces in 2024, according to Artur Poghosyan, Chairman of the Investigative Committee. Poghosyan presented the figures during the committee’s annual report to the National Assembly on Monday.

He noted a slight decrease compared to 2023, when 36 incidents resulted in 59 deaths.

Of the 2024 cases, 39 prompted criminal investigations. They included five murder cases involving five individuals, seven suicides and three cases resulting in four deaths attributed to enemy actions. Additionally, there were seven incidents involving 10 deaths due to vehicle misuse or rules violations. One fatality was classified as accidental, while seven deaths were attributed to illness.

The victims included 4 officers, 12 conscripts, 7 contract soldiers, 1 reservist, 6 militia members and 10 civilians.

Poghosyan also reported that 12 of the criminal cases were later dismissed.
