MP questions rapid promotion of ruling faction head's wife at HayPost

At a parliament session debating the 2024 annual report of Armenia’s Anti-Corruption Committee (ACC) on Tuesday, opposition MP Taguhi Tovmasyan raised concerns over the swift career advancement and growing salary of the wife of Hayk Konjoryan, head of the ruling Civil Contract faction in the Armenian National Assembly.

Tovmasyan pointed out that Konjoryan’s wife, employed at HayPost – Armenia’s national postal service – has seen a significant salary increase in recent years. According to her asset declarations, she earned 6.8 million drams in 2021, which rose to 9.5 million drams in 2022 and reached 10.5 million drams in 2023. She was appointed director of HayPost last year.

Addressing ACC Chairman Artur Nahapetyan, Tovmasyan asked: “Does this meteoric salary growth suggest a possible corruption scheme? Would she have achieved such a rapid career growth if her husband weren’t the leader of the ruling faction?”

In response, Nahapetyan declined to assess the matter from a political standpoint. “I cannot respond to politically charged questions. Based on what you’ve described, I do not see any evidence of a corruption-related offense. However, if you possess concrete information regarding a possible crime, I urge you to submit a formal report to the Anti-Corruption Committee,” he added.
