Armenian economy minister to visit Georgia amid brandy shipment delays

Armenian Economy Minister Gevorg Papoyan announced plans to visit Georgia in the coming days to address ongoing delays in Armenian brandy shipments at the Georgian border.

Speaking at a press briefing on Thursday, Papoyan acknowledged that the issue remains unresolved with the reasons behind the delays still unclear to Armenian authorities.

“We are actively working at all levels to find a solution,” the minister said, referring to the situation where trucks carrying Armenian brandy to Russia are stranded at the Georgian border.

At the Kazbegi (Geyzi) checkpoint, Georgian authorities have been removing seals from the trucks, taking product samples and sending them for testing although the shipments are destined for to a third country.

Papoyan revealed that there is a preliminary agreement for him to visit Georgia in the near future to better understand and address the matter.

“Some trucks carrying brandy alcohol have been allowed to pass, but unfortunately, the issue remains unresolved. A real solution means understanding the institutional reasons behind these actions,” the minister added.
