Analyst: Is EU pushing Armenia toward new concessions?

EU High Representative Kaja Kallas recently announced that Armenia and Azerbaijan “are very close” to reaching a peace agreement.

“I believe it is in everyone's interest for them to sign that agreement,” she said.

However, political analyst Suren Surenyants criticized the statement as overly vague.

“When it comes to the text of the peace treaty, Yerevan has accepted all of Baku’s demands, resulting in a finalized document. However, instead of signing the treaty, Azerbaijan has put forward two new preconditions and has been firing at villages in Armenia’s Syunik and Tavush Provinces on a daily basis for two months,” he wrote on Telegram on Friday.

“The international community appears to turn a blind eye to this conduct, which effectively encourages Baku’s demands and pressures Armenia into making further concessions for the sake of finalizing the agreement,” the analyst added.
