Opposition leader defends fellow MP's outburst as reaction to provocation

Opposition Hayastan faction leader Seyran Ohanyan defended MP Levon Kocharyan's recent outburst in the parliament, attributing it to provocation by lawmakers from Armenia's ruling Civil Contract party.

Speaking to reporters on Friday, Ohanyan said Kocharyan remained composed while expressing his views, but reacted to repeated verbal attacks from Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and other Civil Contract MPs.

“This kind of rhetoric, from calling MPs ‘scumbags’ to threatening them with the NSS, is unacceptable,” Ohanyan stated. “Levon Kocharyan's response, though emotional, was proportional to the provocations.”

He denied any plans to strip Kocharyan of his parliament seat, calling the incident a result of the toxic atmosphere fostered by the ruling bloc.
