CSTO hopes Yerevan, Baku will sign peace deal as soon as possible

The Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) hopes that a peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan will be signed in the near future, CSTO Secretary General Imangali Tasmagambetov announced on Monday.

Speaking at a meeting of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly (PA) Council, Tasmagambetov highlighted recent progress in the South Caucasus, noting that both Armenia and Azerbaijan have completed negotiations and finalized the text of a bilateral agreement.

“There are certain positive developments in the Caucasus,” he said. “This includes the joint statement from the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan on the completion of negotiations and the harmonization of an interstate document between the two countries. We hope the agreement will be signed as soon as possible and believe its implementation will pave the way for lasting peace and stability in the region.”

The CSTO PA Council meeting is being held in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.
