Armenian brandy exporters suffer major losses amid Georgian transit blockade, MP warns

MP Garnik Danielyan of the opposition Hayastan faction warns that Armenian brandy producers have suffered major financial losses for more than 40 days due to export delays at the Georgian border.

On Wednesday, producers staged a protest outside the Georgian Embassy and later marched to the government building, demanding action to lift the transit restrictions.

Despite assurances from Economy Minister Gevorg Papoyan that negotiations with the Georgian authorities are ongoing, the issue remains unresolved. Dozens of trucks remain stuck at the Georgian border checkpoint, raising concerns over job losses and business closures in the sector.

Danielyan called the export blockade unjustified and criticized the authorities for failure to protect a vital industry. The MP attributed the crisis to “incompetent and irresponsible governance”.
