Over 8,300 displaced Artsakh people granted Armenian citizenship

As of May 20, a total of 8,315 people forcibly displaced from Artsakh were granted Armenian citizenship, according to Deputy Interior Minister Armen Ghazaryan.

At a press briefing on Friday, Ghazaryan said that 9,451 displaced persons have applied for citizenship to date, with the vast majority already receiving approval through presidential decrees.

He clarified that citizenship is granted to adult applicants. In the case of minors, if one parent acquires Armenian citizenship, their children may also obtain citizenship accordingly.

Ghazaryan also reported a sharp rise in application numbers in recent weeks. “At the beginning of the year, we were receiving around 20 applications per day. Recently, the number has increased to 40–50 daily,” he said.
