Armenia to digitize driver's licenses starting September 1

Starting September 1, all existing Armenian driver’s licenses will be converted into digital format, Deputy Interior Minister Armen Ghazaryan announced at a press conference on Friday. The legislative proposal has already been submitted to the National Assembly.

Under the new measure, drivers will no longer be fined for failing to present a physical license if they can be identified through the online system by a patrol officer. Citizens obtaining a new license after September 1 will pay the standard state fee, while those requesting a plastic version in addition to the digital one will incur an extra charge.

Vehicle registration certificates will also be digitized to simplify online vehicle transactions.

In addition, drivers will be allowed to retake licensing exams earlier than the current legally mandated period provided they pay a designated fee.
