Armenian FM again urges Azerbaijan to sign peace deal

Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan stated that Azerbaijan’s concerns can be addressed by signing a peace treaty, not by delaying it.

Speaking at a joint press conference with French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot in Yerevan on Monday, Mirzoyan said that without a conflict, defined through a signed and ratified peace agreement, there would be no need for conflict-resolution bodies like the OSCE Minsk Group, whose dissolution is one of Baku’s preconditions.

He added that while discussions around such institutional matters are possible, Azerbaijan’s demand for a change of Armenia’s constitution is not acceptable. However, he noted that if Azerbaijan is genuinely concerned about territorial claims, the treaty itself would be the most direct way to address its concerns.

“After its conclusion, the treaty would go to our Constitutional Court, the only body authorized to interpret the constitution. If the court confirms its compliance with the constitution, the issue is resolved,” Mirzoyan said.
