Azerbaijani gunfire toward Armenian border villages no accident, MP warns

Ceasefire violations by Azerbaijani forces along Armenia’s southeastern border are part of a broader political strategy, not isolated incidents, opposition lawmaker Tigran Abrahamyan claims.

“For nearly two months now, we’ve been witnessing deliberate and coordinated violations by Azerbaijan along various border sections,” he told reporters on Thursday.

The Pativ Unem faction MP expressed particular concern over the targeting of the Armenian villages of Khoznavar and Khndzoresk in Syunik Province. He cited their proximity to the border as a factor making them vulnerable to Azerbaijani attacks.

“What’s unfolding along the border today, just as it did five or ten years ago, carries a strong political dimension,” he stressed. “These are not random shots. There’s a consistent pattern: it begins with sporadic firing, escalates toward military positions and eventually shifts to civilian areas. Residential homes are being deliberately targeted.”

Abrahamyan also highlighted Azerbaijan's active promotion of the false "Western Azerbaijan" narrative.

“Azerbaijan is pursuing two main objectives. First, to use these incidents to gain concessions from Armenia on critical issues. Second, they have come to realize that some of their once-ambitious goals are now gradually becoming attainable," the MP stated.
