Pashinyan's approval rating at historic low, MP says

MP Hayk Mamijanyan, the leader of the opposition Pativ Unem faction, has explained why the opposition believes now is the ideal time to push for the ouster of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.

“Pashinyan’s approval rating has hit a historic low and continues to decline,” he told a press briefing on Friday. “Geopolitically, he currently enjoys support solely from Turkey. In addition, a no-confidence motion is the only path forward that requires zero involvement from Pashinyan himself.”

Mamijanyan added that work on a strategy, hinted at by former President Serzh Sargsyan, has been underway for a long time. In April, Sargsyan stated the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) has a clear plan for political change but declined to elaborate further.

Addressing the impeachment effort, Mamijanyan explained that the Pativ Unem faction decided not to nominate a candidate for prime minister in order to avoid further complicating the already delicate process with political ambitions.
