Protest in defense of Armenian church held outside government

A protest in support of the Armenian Apostolic Church was held outside the Armenian government building on Monday.

The demonstrators denounced the Armenian leadership's campaign against the church as a deliberate attempt to undermine Armenia’s national institutions.

"The attacks target one of Armenia’s core pillars – the Armenian Apostolic Church, which has preserved our identity for centuries," one of the protesters, Gayane Yenokyan, told reporters. She further claimed that the government’s stance aligns with Turkish-Azerbaijani interests. “We must act to show that such behavior will no longer be tolerated,” she added.

Another protester, Sonia Tashchyan, accused Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan of attempting to discredit the church through his public statements. “If we have any dignity left, we must stand up for our church, home and homeland,” she said, insisting on a change of government in Armenia.

The protesters held posters reading, "Devil-worshipping authorities are behind our disaster" and "The Armenian Apostolic Church is the pillar of the nation".
