Armenian Interior Minister Arpine Sargsyan announced that authorities seized approximately 426 kilograms of narcotics in 2024, marking an increase of 200 kilograms compared to 2023.
Speaking at a cabinet meeting on Thursday, Sargsyan presented the government’s Strategy for Combating the Illicit Trafficking of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances and the 2025-2027 Action Plan for approval.
She also reported that 173 kilograms of drugs were confiscated in the first five months of 2025, highlighting intensified efforts to prevent drug smuggling into the country.
Sargsyan emphasized the government’s continued focus on the education and healthcare sectors as key components of its anti-drug strategy, which prioritizes prevention over treatment.
