Why Catholicos Aram I remains silent over Pashinyan's attacks on clergy?

Political analyst Hakob Badalyan has questioned why Catholicos Aram I remains silent amid Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's campaign against Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin II and other top clergy.

"What does Aram I’s prolonged silence signify? This silence is particularly notable given Aram I's phone call with then-candidate Donald Trump two days before the U.S. presidential elections. That call was widely portrayed by some political and public circles in Armenia as evidence of Trump's profound affection for Armenia," he wrote on Facebook on Thursday.

"Aram I is certainly not an enemy of Armenia and the Armenian people. On the contrary, he is an important asset to Armenian statehood itself. But in order to fully grasp the dynamics at play, we must analyze these processes layer by layer, not through hollow toasts. Only then can we transform Armenian society from passive observers into active political agents during this pivotal moment in global history," Badalyan added.
