Deputy FM: Armenia's stance on regional transport links remains unchanged

Deputy Foreign Minister Vahan Kostanyan stresses that Armenia's position regarding regional transport communications remains unchanged, emphasizing the country's sovereign rights.

Speaking at a press briefing on Thursday, Kostanyan noted that Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's recent visit to Turkey took place in a “generally positive atmosphere”. He cited official press releases, highlighting discussions on Armenia-Turkey bilateral ties, as well as broader regional issues concerning the South Caucasus and the Middle East.

According to Kostanyan, the two countries found common ground on several Middle East-related topics. He also confirmed that both sides reaffirmed their agreement to open the Armenia-Turkey border for third-country nationals and diplomatic passport holders, though further steps are still required to implement it.

The talks in Turkey also included the Armenia-Azerbaijan normalization process and matters related to regional transport links. Kostanyan reiterated Armenia’s position that all communications passing through its territory must remain under Armenian sovereignty and jurisdiction.

“Despite various speculations before and after the visit, Armenia’s stance on regional communications has not changed,” he stated.
