Armenian opposition boycotts ruling party's anti-terrorism statement

Ruling Civil Contract faction leader Hayk Konjoryan announced a special parliament sitting later on Thursday to adopt a statement condemning terrorism against Armenia.

However, opposition factions sharply criticized the initiative, labeling it politically motivated.

Hayastan faction secretary Artsvik Minasyan said the proposed resolution is “not only unacceptable due to its content and false claims, but also amounts to a direct interference in the work of investigative bodies.” He stressed that the Hayastan faction unequivocally condemns acts of terrorism and all forms of violence. As a result, the faction will not take part in what it sees as an illegitimate process.

Pativ Unem faction leader Hayk Mamijanyan also announced their decision to boycott the hearings, stating: “The faction refuses to participate in the ruling party’s propaganda theatrics.”
