Opposition MP raises concerns over ENA nationalization bill amid parliamentary debates

During a second parliamentary reading on Wednesday, MP Artsvik Minasyan of the opposition Hayastan faction expressed deep concerns over proposed legislative amendments that would allow for the nationalization of the Electricity Networks of Armenia (ENA).

Minasyan questioned whether proper legislative procedures had been followed, including expert consultations and comprehensive parliamentary debates. He also raised issues regarding the constitutionality of the bill and its economic impact.

“What are the financial and investment risks? Who will ultimately bear the higher electricity costs?” he asked Vladimir Vardanyan, the bill’s sponsor and head of the Standing Committee on State and Legal Affairs.

Vardanyan responded that the amendments target not only ENA but all entities with strategic importance in Armenia’s energy sector.
