Vanetsyan: Armenia's ruling party has no chance of securing majority in 2026 elections

The Homeland Party is preparing to participate in the upcoming parliamentary elections – whether regular or snap – its leader Artur Vanetsyan has announced.

In an interview with Sputnik Armenia on Friday, Vanetsyan addressed his party’s electoral readiness, revealing that the Homeland Party is steadily expanding its presence across the country, including in Yerevan and the regions. The expansion includes the opening of new offices and the recruitment of new members.

A comprehensive party platform is currently in development and will be unveiled to the public in the near future.

“Our program will be crafted so that every citizen clearly understands how it will directly impact their life when we come to power. People from all walks of life should clearly see what will change for the better if they vote for us,” Vanetsyan explained.

He also confirmed that the Homeland Party intends to contest the elections independently, without forming alliances with other political groups.

When asked if he would be the party’s candidate for prime minister, the politician replied: “I believe so. But the final decision will be made by the party during its congress ahead of the elections.”

Regarding the ongoing impeachment process against Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Vanetsyan said: “I don’t want to assess whether it is realistic or not. I simply say that it's a constitutional mechanism the parliamentary opposition must use.”

He emphasized that while opposition forces may differ in their tactics, their shared goal remains the removal of Pashinyan and his government.

“We may have tactical disagreements, but the objective remains the same,” he stressed.

Vanetsyan expressed strong confidence that the ruling Civil Contract party has no chance of securing 50% or more of the vote in the upcoming elections.

“The public discontent is widespread," he said. "People are anxious, waking up every day uncertain about their future. Nikol Pashinyan won the 2021 elections through false promises, pledging peace and security for the Artsakh people.”
